The ambush, unfortunately if we get caught in one it is because we were not paying attention, or the other team is very very good. So the best way to counter an ambush is to PAY ATTENTION, if you are point or a flank element please pay very close attention to your surroundings. If an enemy has time to set up an ambush they have planned their fire zones with overlapping fields of fire and a well defined kill zone, if this is the case chances are we will be eating lunch together. If it is a hasty ambush, meaning they saw us long before we saw them we have a good chance of defeating it. Only the best way to break an ambush is straight through it! That's right we turn towards the fire and unload everything we have in a short amount of time as we rush through their position. Why? Well an average ambush lasts less than 30 seconds, and anyone staying in a kill zone is...well...killed. So get out of it as fast as you can. Two things happen in this strategy.
1. The enemy is expecting you to go left, right or back, not towards them so you get a little surprise and fear,(hopefully they have put some new guys, or non team members in the ambush). Second it gets us out of the kill zone quickly, making the pre-set fields of fire obsolete. The ambusher must adjust which takes 4-5 seconds at the minimum making the average 30 second ambush turn to our favor. |
